Also, some laundry detergents are more eco-friendly than others. We thought we’d provide you with some tips to keep your shirts&words t-shirt Hopi Great & Dushi while sparing the environment and your budget at the same time.
How to handle stains in a shirts&words t-shirt the eco-friendly way
There are all sorts of pre-wash potions to help shift stains. Aside from the toxic nature of the chemicals, they often come in elaborate packaging. Some greener and more economic alternatives you may wish to try first are:
• Spray white vinegar on deodorant and other stains on garments just before washing
• Apply a bit of baking soda and water onto stains, then wash
• For pre-soaking, try “Ossengalzeep” and allow your stained laundry to soak for 30 minutes.
• Use cold water when pre-treating stains.
How to wash your shirts&words products in an eco-friendly way
• Always wash your t-shirt or baby bodysuit before wearing it. When washing the product for the first time, add ½ to 1 cup of white vinegar to the water. This will help set the dyes and result in increased colour fastness.
• Wash and dry your shirts&words t-shirt inside out.
• Wash and dry with like colours and wait until you have enough laundry to fill up the machine completely.
• Use powdered detergent and dilute this powder with some hot water yourself. This will save your budget since liquid detergent is much more expensive, and saves the environment since powder uses less packaging and is usually made of carton instead of plastic.
• Use a gentle cycle with a maximum temperature of 30˚C. This will both keep your shirts longer and spare the environment.
• Cool iron. Do not iron on print. Either use a handkerchief to cover the print or iron inside out
• Do not tumble your shirt dry
